The Gardiner Police Department would like to remind all citizens and visitors that as winter is definitely here and we have had significant snowfall that the city does have a winter parking ban in effect. There is no parking on any city street from November 1 through April 30 from 12:00 midnight to 6:00 AM. This is in effect whether it is snowing or not.
We would also like to let you know of how the police department handles vehicles that may need to be towed whether during an active snowfall or for snow removal from Water Street, Arcade Parking Lot, or any city owned property.
The police department is tasked in making sure there are no vehicles parked on city streets or in areas that public works has scheduled for snow removal. The snow removal areas are posted the day before, warning that there is going to be snow removal and vehicles need to be moved by a specific time. Additional noticed are posted on the City's website, notification system, and social media accounts.
For vehicles that are hindering snow removal or plowing, police officers will first check the dispatch records system to identify the registered owner and will attempt to contact by phone if one is listed. If contact cannot be made by phone, and the registration reveals the owner address to be in Gardiner/South Gardiner, they will attempt to contact the registered owner in person to have them move their vehicle. If contact is unsuccessful then the vehicle will be towed.
What we often run into is that the vehicle registration comes back to another municipality as the registration has not been updated when persons move. This is a violation of Title 29-A Section 1407 “Failure to Notify Secretary of State of Name/Address Change on Registration/License”. This change must be done within 30 days of moving to a new address.
Ensuring your registration information is accurate may ultimately save a tow bill.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. City of Gardiner Police Department
